End the Decade Strong

by Bill Gough, Insurance Hall of Fame Agent

The end of 2019 is quickly approaching and of course, with it, comes all the usual nostalgia regarding our year’s ups and downs. Let’s take a moment to realize that not only a year is ending, but a decade as well! Goodbye teens and hello ‘20s.

Think about the last 10 years of your life? What has changed since the beginning of 2009? Your business? Your career? Your personal life?

What has changed since then? Are you in a better place now than you were on the first day of 2010?

Are you making resolutions? Setting up goals? I’m not against new year’s resolutions. I hardly make them, because usually, I can’t keep up with them. However, I do get a lot from self-reflection and goal setting.

As the years have passed, I take a nightly self-inventory to assess where I am, where I want to be, what I haven’t done, and what I want or need to do.

With the year ending, now is the time to sit down, evaluate our goals and review what we’ve accomplished and, also, assess and prepare for our 2020 goals.

We need to focus on how we can finish the year strong. Do what needs to be done so that we can say, “We did our absolute best.”

It is up to us on how this ear ends. Remember that. If we fall short of a goal, it’s not too late to do something about it.

No matter what your goal, was or is, do what you need to do to finish this year strong. Remember, goals are flexible, but giving up or giving in should NEVER BE AN OPTION.

AND… While you’re at it, take a moment to daydream. Think about where you want to be 10 years from now and how you can set yourself up for that success.

The next decade is waiting for us. Possibilities are endless. What version of yourself do you want to be when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, 2029?
