Recently, I have been traveling quite a bit. During these busy times, I have to mentally keep myself and my attitude in check, because it’s easy for me to get worn down.
The passage below titled "Attitude" was how retired Allstate FVP Ron Corbin always said it in his meetings. He did NOT read it ... he had memorized it. For a while, I thought it was his own writing, until he sent all the agents in the Old Nashville region the article written by Charles Swindoll on a big magnet.
Ron was my FVP, the top spot back then in the early 90's when our agency began winning Chairman’s and Leader’s awards. I was highly motivated back then, and Ron was very supportive of our agency. It was fun being under his direction for a handful of years.
Here is the passage:
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, or a home. The remarkable thing is that we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. Nor can we change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We also cannot change the inevitable. The only thing that we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you – we are in charge of our attitudes.”
